Redesign

Here we had a bright, lovely and enormous living room (24' x 24'!) and the homeowner had no idea where to start in terms of decorating.

THE DILEMMA
The room has a huge grand entrance (2 double-sized French doors), 4 more sets of French doors inside the room and on top of that it also has very large windows. Gorgeous? Yes. Original to this lovely old home? Yes. Wall space? NOOO!

THE SOLUTION
Here is an example of what I call "decorating in the middle"...of the room, that is.  The most beautiful feature of this room is the fireplace with old world moldings and that definitely needed to be the focal point in the room. The symmetrical placement of 2 sofas facing each other, perpendicular to the fireplace anchors the focal point and also welcomes you in to sit for a spell and enjoy the fire. The sofa was nearly new so we recovered it in a luxurious cream fabric. A pair of Moroccan slipper chairs had been hiding in an upstairs bedroom but with fresh coordinating cream slipcovers, they found new lives in the living room. The rest is inexpensive vases, lamps, pillows and tables from local discount home stores, except for one end table. That was recycled from the neighbor's trash and given new life with a fresh coat of paint. The slipcovers were custom-made (always leave slip-covering to the experts!!) and a little pricey but still much cheaper than purchasing new furniture and much better for the environment. This total makeover cost came in under budget at just $2,700 in materials and the homeowners were thrilled.
